Andrews as the world's largest user operating system, its users reached hundreds of millions of people worldwide. But according to a recent U.S. public intelligence documents show that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the FBI (FBI) for its members and law enforcement officials to use the old version of the mobile operating system when faced with government-level, state or local level expressed serious concerns about security threats.
According to one marked "for government use" non-confidential documents show that 44% of Android users worldwide are still using Android 2.3.3 to 2.3.7 version, these versions still contain many security vulnerabilities, and these vulnerabilities are has been fixed in the new version. The reason why the public intelligence report released is the biggest reason for the police, firefighters, emergency medical services (EMS) and security personnel of the operating system to use for security protection.
However, the document does not indicate the U.S. government to use Android platform, the number of staff, but did not specify that the Government network system using the number of older Android platform.
Documents show that: "As Android market share and open source framework and other factors, Andrews is still the main target of malicious attacks." With the U.S. government on the use of mobile devices demand increases, "just in time for mobile [operating systems] play patch and maintain updated version become more important. "
As we all know, to ensure the safe use of Android, the user's equipment requires frequent go to the old ones, especially for office equipment to bring their own enterprise environments, the timely replacement of equipment for safety and security is extremely important because in this environment under the program security burden has been dispersed in each user's body. Moreover, many manufacturers and operators are not released for the old equipment to support the latest version of the Android system.
In addition to the above, there is some information in the report deserve our attention, as follows:
79% of malicious threats impact on the Andrew system, specifically for Symbian accounted for 19 percent of malicious threats. And for Windows Mobile, Blackberry, iOS, and other operating system malicious threats hidden proportion of less than 1%. (Data source is unknown.)
Currently for previous versions of Android operating system malicious applications, SMS text messaging accounted for "nearly half" ratio. In this regard, the user can install the Android security suite to enhance defense capabilities.
Rootkit Android platform also constitutes a huge threat. U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the FBI released documents that in the end of 2011, a popular rootkit called Carrier IQ has been installed on millions of devices, including Apple's iPhone (Apple subsequently removed the software) and numerous Android devices. These rootkit programs are usually not easily be detected and without the user's consent can login user name, password, and network services, such security issues in the government, enterprise-class setting is an extremely serious security vulnerabilities.
Document states that cyber crime by creating a fake name and copy Google Play Android app store, trick users into installing a fake or malicious applications. U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the FBI that the user can only be allowed to run by the IT department approved updates and prompt IT departments should be introduced to ensure the safety of the device the IT policy to prevent the back-end mobile device management service attack.
